And so, the ball was in his court. Felix tried to distract himself as he passed his time at work. He didn’t mind the site visits. At least he could talk to people, be out in the fresh air, do something practical, but the office work felt tedious, pointless, emasculating.

He came alive at night. He would happily wait three hours to get into the best clubs. He also knew the optimum time to arrive to avoid the queue; five am on a Sunday was just right. He would wear leather pants, scowl at the bouncers, a sure way to be admitted. The crowd was often tattooed, pierced, dressed like winged creatures in black. Sometimes there were many men in shorts, women in spandex. Women in sparkling violet boots with silver spoons strapped over each nipple. There were people dressed in police uniform and army clothes. He loved it all. But it was the music that really got him. It was transporting, even spiritual. When he was dancing, he lost time. Free yourself from the prison of the grasping mind, he would play it on repeat in his head as he danced, and so he would, jumping, flying, catapulting across the floor.
